“MAKING A DIFFERENCE WITH DIFFERENCES.”
Chan Tep is a consultant in diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility/belonging, journalist, host, creator and producer of Cambodian origin. Arriving in Canada in 1979 as a refugee with her family, she has carved out a remarkable place for herself in the media world and has become a leading figure in the audiovisual industry. Her tireless work for diversity and representation in Quebec and Canadian French-language media has earned her a place in the Canadian Encyclopedia.
Her journey is truly extraordinary. In 1979, carried by the courage and resilience of her parents who were fleeing the terror of Pol Pot's genocidal Khmer Rouge regime, Chan arrived in Quebec at 10 months old, welcomed by Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger. This family heritage has shaped her fighting spirit.
A survivor of aggressive cancer in 2010, she redirected her life and career toward societal and immigration issues, inspired by her own refugee journey. In the media world, she dedicates herself to showcasing people from diverse backgrounds. Her show Mosaïque en lumière, broadcast on MAtv from 2015 to 2017, approached Montreal's cultural communities in an innovative way, celebrating diversity and intersectionality both in front of and behind the camera. Her voice has been heard through numerous media collaborations, notably with Radio-Canada, MAtv, 98.5 FM, Noovo Info, HuffPost Québec, TVA, and Vidéotron, where she has contributed to current affairs programs, news, cultural shows, and documentaries.
As co-founder and board president of the non-profit Connexion Champa, she works to build cultural, artistic, educational, and economic bridges between Canada and Southeast Asia. She also dedicates herself to mentoring diverse talent, while hosting numerous events in Greater Montreal and developing projects through her company C+Créative Productions.
Her expertise is widely recognized, leading to regular invitations as master of ceremonies and speaker for prestigious organizations such as Radio-Canada, UNESCO, UBISOFT, BNC, Coalition Médias, Google News Initiative, and several other major institutions.
In 2024, Heritage Canada designated her as a Notable Asian Canadian. She is among the most distinguished Cambodian individuals in Canada and has received an honorary certificate from the National Assembly of Quebec for her commitment to immigrant women.
